Askew Codex Also known as Codex Askewianus. A Coptic parchment codex, dating to about the fourth century, that contains the gnostic tractate Pistis Sophia and an unnamed text.
The Askew Codex was acquired by a London doctor and book collector named Anthony Askew in the 18th century. Its place of origin is unknown, but was likely Egypt. This would make it one of several codices that originated in Egypt and contain gnostic literature, including the Codex Tchacos, Bruce Codex, Berlin Codex, and the Nag Hammadi codices. It was purchased from Askew’s heirs by the British Museum in 1785 and is now located in the British Library.
For further information on the text Pistis Sophia, see this article: Pistis Sophia.
