Biblical Relevance

Pithom was a storage city in eastern Egypt and is referenced only once in the Bible (Exod 1:11). The city was built, along with the city of Raamses, by the Hebrew slaves for Pharaoh before the birth of Moses. There is no reference in the text as to the size of the city, or whether it was related to Raamses in location or scale. (Hoffmeier, Israel in Egypt, 119).
